Lily’s election story
Lily called me at work yesterday and left a message. All she said was, “Daddy, I voted for Barack Obama.” They apparently had a mock election in her class. Jen and I both tried to get out of her why she voted for Obama or where she even heard the name, we don’t talk politics in the house much. We never did figure out why or how.
After school yesterday she proudly announces that John McCain won. We tried to explain that it was not over and she just told us, “I heard it in Kindergarten.” How can we argue with that? Later in the evening while she was in the tub she must have been thinking about the McCain victory and she said, “I wish I would have voted for McCain.”
This morning when she got up I told her that Obama had won and she was most excited, not so much for him but more for herself that she voted correctly. Because as you know to Lily everything in life has a right or wrong answer and she always likes to be right.
Hi Ray
Thanks, that was neat!
Bonnie
Hi all,
My that was neat, was for the site Ray posted about finding out who within the states voted for whom and who was winning. This post deserves a little more than ‘that was neat’. I’ve decided that you are all strange at that household. Lily is five and should not be thinking about who is running for president. She should be thinking about what’s for lunch and what starts with the letter ‘h’ or the letter ‘k’. She’s a preschooler for goodness sake! Let her be a kid and let all of us old folks worry about who is running our country–that’s why she doesn’t get to vote til she’s 18! You don’t even have a TV for goodness sake, how can Lily keep up with what’s going on???
Okay, enough ragging on you! Love you all, thanks for keeping us up to date!

She told you, she learned it all in KINDERGARTEN. We, her parents, had NOTHING to do with her new found desire for politics!!! Besides, anything that keeps her from wondering what’s for lunch is a plus.
Lily is going to Oklahoma this afternoon with Nana until Sunday. Should be fun, Nana got lots of COOL stuff for her to play with. I’m tempted to go with them!! I would just need to figure out what to do with Jon and Evan for 4 hours until Ray get’s home today!
