[5/19] Little Friend pt 3

Yet another adventure from Daddy the magnificent mouse hunter! As I am driving home from work today I get a call, it is Jen. She was calling to tell me there is a mouse in the basement, as if the little turds were not enough of a sign I say OK. No she says, I see it right now, what should we do. Hmmm, trap it I say, to which the reply was NO.

Thinking the mouse probably scurried away I continued my drive home. 10 minutes later another call. We have it cornered she tells me, of course I reply, are you taking pictures? I tell her to keep him cornered and I will be home in a minute. So I get home and head downstairs. The two kids, mommy and the neighbor girl from across the street are all sitting on the floor looking at me. Sure enough they had scared the mouse into a frozen state where he didn’t know what to do but just sit there.

This time my trap of choice was two metal buckets, it was all I could find as I went into the house since I had to throw the tongs away from the last adventure. Here is the cliff notes version of what happened next. Mouse goes left and starts heading up the stairs, deflected by a bucket he goes back down and heads right. Mouse goes under a table, into a rolled up yoga mat, out the other side, up my arm, Jen screams, the kids jump and now the mouse is really scared. Mouse goes under a bookcase, daddy moves the bookcase mouse starts to head into a storage room, daddy deftly scoops him into a metal bucket, mouse is trapped. OK, so really I just put the bucket on the ground in the only direction he could go and he ran in, but it sounds better the other way.

This was a lot more work than it should have been but trying to please my kids who kept saying, don’t squish him, made for some delicate work. So now we have the mouse trapped and the debate begins as to what to do with him. Mommy and Lily want to keep him and Jon wants to squish him, so we compromise and head outside.

Here is the mouse in the the bucket.

Jon starts to pick him up.

And here he is in the grass.

Once he hit the grass, he scurried across the street and hopefully out of our lives. For those of you keeping score.

As I was writing this post there was another adventure going on. Here is the shortened cliff notes version. Type, type, squeak, squeak, search, search. Type, type, squeak, squeak, vrrooom goes the vacuum, suck goes the mouse. Score another one for the home team! Tomorrow I am going to Walmart to get some sticky traps, all this mouse hunting is wearing me down!

I don’t want to know what happened with the mouse in the vacuum. I hope you released it. Jennifa, you don’t look as big as a house! Come on, third kid and you look good! Thanks for keeping us updated, I really appreciate it!
    Love you
