[5/1] Tornado Night

Sirens go off and the Fuller’s head for shelter

Tonight brought us what the meteorologist type folks call storms with the potential for tornadic activity. I just love the sound of the word tornadic.

Around 7:15 as we were getting the kids into bed the tornado sirens started to sound. Since the school has to do tornado drills once a month the kids knew just what to do. Before I turned around they were heading downstairs telling me we had to go to the basement in the storage room. So I fought my mid western urge to run outside to see the tornado, that is what we always did when the sirens went off, and headed down to the basement.

After awhile Jon was unimpressed with the whole thing and he decided to go to sleep.

In the end we spent about 45 minutes in the storage room. Other than the neighbors standing on their porches, I told you that is what we do when the sirens go off, there was nothing more than some small hail, rain and a little bit of wind. I can’t say I was disappointed and I was very proud of how well our kids were trained on what to do when the sirens sound, all the credit for that goes to mommy!

Nana was all dressed to go for her dance lesson when the sirens went off in Lenexa! Of course, she went outside to look at the sky, even though there was nothing in the sky to see….she stayed home.

Well, MASS chaos broke out at our house this evening! The girls took off for the basement as soon as the sirens sounded but as I rather hastily shoved them into the closet down there, Bailey turned to me, grabbed onto my leg and SHOUTED “Are we going to stay on the ground mommy?!” I assured her we were but Parker wasn’t believing me at all, she was SCREAMING at the top of her lungs “I don’t want to go up mommy, I DONT WANT TO!” Our weather radio was BLARRING, the meterologists were all in an up roar, both kiddos are now screaming IN THE CLOSET, the phone is ringing, my head is spinning and my darling hubby is: ON THE FRONT PORCH!!!!!

Hehehe, that is a classic story Heather!

I’m just glad you’re all safe and sound. I’d have been out on the porch with Ray. But Mommy was right in training you to go the basement. Good Job, Jennifa!
