December 13 - December 19 (J-Week 0)

By Mama

Jonathan Daniel Fuller
Little Jonathan Daniel Fuller arrived on Wednesday, December 15th at 7:15 AM. He weighed 6 lbs and 15 ozs and was 19 and quarter inches long.
If you want to read about what happened, keep reading for a “summary” of events for the evening of Tuesday, December 14th, otherwise, just jump right to the picture of Lily with a bucket on her head!

Summary of Events:
Jonathan’s birth was quite different than Lily’s (here I go, already comparing the two of them!) We chose to be induced because I was really afraid that he would come just as quick (or quicker) than Lily (3 hours TOTAL) and I wouldn’t have time to get to the hospital. Being induced adds a new light to going into labor. We were scheduled to be at the hospital at midnight on Tuesday (read: bright and early Wednesday morning.) So, what does one do the night before? It’s not like you’re going to be able to sleep! So, everywhere we went on Tuesday I told everyone that “I’m having a baby tonight.” Ray was really tired of hearing that by the end of the evening, but seriously, how often do you get to say that? Ray’s Mom came over to watch Lily and Ray and I went out to Chubby’s On Broadway.

…and then to see Christmas With the Kranks. Here’s me on the Plaza before we went into the movie.

The movie ended just in time for us to go to the hospital. Once there, I decided that I didn’t want to be induced and I became VERY anxious. We all know that I’m not exactly keen on needles, pain, hospitals or “delivering” babies. For some reason, the nurses didn’t want to administer the “gel” right away; guess they thought I might just pop that baby out. So, they gave me an equivalent of Benedryl to calm me down and it was either that or the fact that it was 2:00 AM but, I got very drowsy. Shortly after the “gel” was given to me at 2:00 AM, I started to get contractions; they weren’t too bad, but I decided that I wanted an epidural because I knew the pain was coming. After all, I survived a natural-no-needle-childbirth with Lily, but I had time to ask for drugs this time! The epidural wasn’t so bad, but you did have to sit still and I had the most horrible shakes. The poor nurse said that I was starting to make her shake! Side Note: you can make the shakes go away by concentrating on breathing and continually telling yourself “Stop shaking”. After the epidural, we started the Pitocin at 6:00. We did that for 20 minutes and had to turn it off to wait for the doctor to get in. The back-up doctor was preparing herself for the deliver right when Dr. Reynolds arrived and threw on her scrubs and said “push”! I said “no”. The next contraction came and the nurse said to push and I said “fine” and his head popped out. He came out screaming and Dr. Reynolds suctioned him and then I pushed his little body out with the next push. Just like that, two pushes in about 3 minutes. Needless to say, I tore and had to be sewn up…this part seemed to have taken forever. But, unlike with Lily, Jonathan was in my arms the whole time and we got to ooh and aah all over him. All in all, it took 5 hours. Not too shabby.
Like I said earlier, the epidural was great; actually, it was too great in my right leg which was numb for three hours after his birth, so we had to chill out in the birthing room before we could go to the hospital room in the maternity ward. After that, it was hospital food, nursing and lots of interruptions until it was time to go home on Friday. And, that is where this story ends.

BUCKET HEAD!
Here’s a great pic of Lily before the baby was born. She had no idea how much her world was about to change…

Two Cents

Oh my goodness, he's just too cute! You are too, darling Jennifa (and I know if I didn't say it, I'd hear about it--actually you look great, other than being a little chubby in front of Chubbys). Jennifa, in the picture titled Too Cute, do you have a little color/pattern contrast going on? I can't wait to get there!!!!!! Nana looks really good and extremely happy holding Little Jon. They are such great pics--other than little foot, which looks like big foot. Your delivery story wasn't quite as scary as with Lily--and you were brave, I'm so proud of you! Ray, Jennifa can't say enough good things about you. You are awesome is one of her favorites. Thank you for being so wonderful to her--you are special. Jen, you are special too and you did a fantastic job and still are, but sometimes the guys who work as hard as Ray is, need to be recognized too!!! You make a beautiful couple and have beautiful babies and, did I say this before?, I can't wait to be there! Merry Christmas to all of you and I'll see you the day after.
Love always,
Muma

Hi All,
He's beautiful! Sorry it took me so long to post my two cents! I went looking for new photos and thought I'd add a note. Can't wait to see him in person! Bet your mom is having fun with both of them right now. It looks like Nana was having fun too! I think it is Gracie that doesn't know how much her world is going to change. With two of them chasing her next year, she better learn to run fast. Lily will probably think he is her new doll. First carriage ride she gives him should be interesting!?!?! No I know she'll be a good girl, she is just too cute. Well love you all and miss you.
